The History of Megan’s Paws & Claws (in honor of Megan Elizabeth Kitchen 10/14/1991 – 12/12/2008)
Megan Elizabeth Kitchen was a beautiful, vibrant, funny, witty, 17 year-old when she lost her life in a tragic car accident. Her parents chose to focus on the things that made Megan the caring person that she was, which was her passion for animals. The family requested for Megan to be honored by donating to the local animal shelter, but unbeknownst to them, a brick-and-mortar facility didn’t exist. The family then turned their attention to fundraising for a proper animal facility to be built and raised $70,000 in donations. A no-kill facility, appropriately named Megan’s Paws & Claws, was put in place in Smithville, Missouri to honor Megan’s life of caring for stray animals. Friends of Megan’s Paws & Claws will continue to honor Megan’s legacy of love for stray and unwanted animals by supporting the Pound via donations received and volunteers donating their time to love and care for the dogs in need.
